Elliot’s is a restaurant and bar situated in Hackney, London, designed as a social place to meet anytime of the day, whether it is for brunch, dinner or late night drinks. The space caters for different sized groups and moods, with a range of atmospheres offered through a large outdoor seating area, a generously dimensioned bar and two dining rooms; one airy and lively room towards the front, and an intimate, more private room towards the rear. The design is based on pure and elegant geometrical shapes, resonating with the style of cooking of the restaurant.

On the exterior, the existing 1950’s brick building has a new facade in ceramic tiles and terrazzo slabs, with massive orange awnings over the large shop front windows. The windows and bifolding doors are made from custom solid oak frames, which makes the exterior and interior seamlessly blend together as one coherent design. This creates a strong connection between the main dining room and the outdoor seating area on the lively corner on Mare Street, making the most of the unique location in the heart of Hackney.

As you enter the restaurant through the oversized glass door, you are greeted by a generous, curved bar made of sustainably sourced eucalyptus wood and brushed stainless steel. The front dining room is flooded with daylight and overlooks a junction that gets busy with pedestrians on weekend nights. The banquets that line the walls and shop front are designed as robust wooden benches with a cobalt blue leather pad on the seat. The bolster backrests are thin and tube-like, allowing as much natural light as possible to pass in through the windows. In contrast to the main dining area there is an intimate, dimly lit dining room to the rear of the restaurant. This space has a contemporary and festive atmosphere, with oak panel walls all around, large mirrors, and a citrus coloured floor.
