Fjordveien house is a small holiday home constructed on a limited budget only a few metres away from a fjord in Holmestrand, Norway. The aim of the project was to achieve a range of different spatial and social qualities with a very economical plan. The main volume is thus divided into three different spaces with a T-shaped wall, producing one large social space, and two smaller private spaces. Attached to one of the short sides is a small bathroom.

The project is a demonstration in how a few well considered walls and openings can create a versatile interior provides a lot of flexibility in its use. As an example, the smaller rooms can be furnished as bedrooms or studies, depending on the position of the furniture. All windows and doors have been carefully designed to create a feeling of closeness to the surrounding nature. When a door is left open to either of the private rooms or bathroom, a clear sightline is created from the main room, through the smaller room, and further out through the window.

The façade is clad in timber panels that have been designed as columns holding the relatively thick roof. This gives the building an expression of stability and resilience, which feels very welcoming on this particular site, which is fully exposed to the wind and rain of the fjord landscape.
